**What is Color Doppler Ultrasound (CDUS)?**
Doppler ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to display and capture images of blood flow in vessels in color. Vascular ultrasound measures blood flow in blood vessels. Color Doppler ultrasound is used to visualize the carotid arteries in the neck, the cerebellar artery, or the arteries and veins in the arms and legs. It detects diseases and medical problems in the blood vessels and facilitates the doctor’s diagnosis. Atherosclerotic plaques in the carotid artery cause arteriosclerosis. They cause narrowing and blockage in the artery, and small clots that can break off from these plaques can travel to the brain and block the capillaries. Therefore, it is a very important examination.
It is a low-energy imaging method, like ultrasound. It is not harmful to human health.
Our specialist doctor will use their experience in color Doppler imaging for your diagnosis and treatment.
During color Doppler ultrasound, you will lie on the examination table as you would for a normal ultrasound and will not be subjected to any painful procedures.
**How should I prepare?**
Please arrive at our center 30 minutes before your appointment. Preparations for ultrasound vary depending on the area of the body to be examined.
**What should I expect?**
Doppler vascular ultrasound is performed in the same way as a normal ultrasound. The radiologist applies a water-soluble gel that does not contain allergens to the area of your body to be examined. This prevents air from remaining between the probe and the skin. The doctor will begin taking images by gently pressing on your skin. The probe generates high-frequency sound waves and detects the echoes that bounce back. The computer connected to the ultrasound converts this data into detailed images. During some parts of the test, you will hear sounds similar to a heartbeat. This is because we are monitoring your blood flow.
**When will I get my results?**
Information about when you will receive your results will be provided to you at our center. Under normal circumstances, you can receive your results within 1 hour.
**How can I make an appointment?**
You can make an appointment by calling our center at (0224) 5135629 – 0533 7252216, by email, or through our website.
**Color Doppler Ultrasound of the Thyroid**
What is color Doppler ultrasound of the thyroid?
The thyroid gland and surrounding area are examined using a high-frequency linear transducer with an ultrasound device to view superficial tissues. It will be possible to see in detail whether there are any lymph nodes or other signs of disease around the gland.
The examination is performed using a state-of-the-art color Doppler ultrasound device at our center.
The thyroid gland secretes thyroid hormones (T3 and T4). These hormones promote growth in childhood and regulate metabolism in adulthood.
It also secretes parathyroid hormone and calcitonin. These hormones regulate calcium metabolism and bone formation.
Therefore, the diagnosis of thyroid gland diseases is very important.
Ultrasound is the most important diagnostic method for thyroid gland diseases.
In thyroid nodules, it allows us to diagnose the number of nodules and distinguish between benign and malignant ones. Your nodules will be monitored regularly, and your treatment will be provided by detecting whether there is growth, color change, or increased blood flow (with Color Doppler Ultrasound).
Color Doppler ultrasound is the first choice for diagnosing inflammatory thyroid diseases (such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis) and Graves’ disease.
Ultrasound should also be preferred for diagnosing parathyroid gland diseases (such as adenoma).
TOMOKAY has two state-of-the-art 4D color ultrasound devices.
In cases where a diagnosis cannot be made, a biopsy is performed with ultrasound guidance.
If you suspect you have goiter (thyroid gland disorders are generally referred to as goiter), you can come to TOMOKAY with your doctor’s referral or directly to our center.
You will be diagnosed and referred to an endocrinologist or surgical treatment accordingly.
How should I prepare?
No preparation is required for a thyroid ultrasound.
We recommend that you arrive at TOMOKAY 30 minutes before your appointment.
Parotid Color Doppler Ultrasound
What is parotid color Doppler ultrasound?
The parotid gland and its surroundings are examined using a high-frequency linear transducer with an ultrasound device to view superficial tissues. It will be clearly seen whether there are any lymph nodes or other signs of disease around the gland.
At our center, examinations are performed using two state-of-the-art 4D Color Doppler ultrasound devices.
The parotid gland is the largest gland that secretes saliva.
Inflammatory diseases and neoplastic diseases (Warthin’s tumor and pleomorphic adenoma are the most common neoplastic diseases) are diagnosed with ultrasound.
Ultrasound is the most important diagnostic method for parotid gland diseases.
In cases where a diagnosis cannot be made, a biopsy is performed with ultrasound guidance.
If you suspect a salivary gland disease, you can come to TOMOKAY with your doctor’s referral or directly to our center.
How should I prepare?
No preparation is required for a parotid gland ultrasound.
We recommend that you arrive at TOMOKAY 30 minutes before your appointment.
Gynecological Color Doppler US
What is gynecological color Doppler ultrasound?
It is an ultrasound performed on the lower abdomen in women. The uterus, ovaries, tubes, bladder, and the lower part of the urinary tract are included in the examination. Additionally, diagnoses can be made for intestinal diseases, peritoneal diseases, and abdominal wall hernias.
Two state-of-the-art 4D Color Doppler Ultrasound devices are used at TOMOKAY.
Since ultrasound uses sound waves—the lowest energy method—for imaging, it has no side effects on your health. You will be examined comfortably while lying on the examination table.
A detailed examination takes approximately 30 minutes.
The condition causing your complaint is almost certainly diagnosed.
If your illness could not be diagnosed at other centers or hospitals and you have not found relief, we welcome you to TOMOKAY.
In some patients (severely obese individuals), more advanced methods may be required, and these methods are also performed in the most detailed manner at TOMOKAY.
During a gynecological ultrasound, if no gynecological disease causing your complaint is present, conditions such as appendicitis and intestinal inflammation are also included in the examination.
**How should I prepare?**
If there is an emergency (such as bleeding, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, trauma, etc.), the ultrasound is performed without any preparation.
If the ultrasound is to be performed by appointment, please come to our center at the appointment time with your bladder moderately full (you will need to hold your urine).
We recommend that you arrive at TOMOKAY 30 minutes before your appointment.
If you do not have a full bladder, you will be asked to drink 2-3 glasses of water at our center to ensure it fills up.
Transvaginal Color Doppler Ultrasound
What is transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound?
The part of the device that touches the body during an ultrasound is called a probe. The specially designed shape of the probe placed in the vagina is called a transvaginal probe. When ultrasound is performed by inserting the transvaginal probe from below, the uterus, ovaries, tubes, and surrounding structures are seen very closely and clearly. Transvaginal Ultrasound is necessary especially in overweight patients, if the uterus is retroverted (tilted backward), or if a clear diagnosis cannot be made with abdominal ultrasound.
EXAMINATIONS ARE PERFORMED AT TOMOKAY WITH TWO STATE-OF-THE-ART COLOR 4D ULTRASOUND DEVICES.
Valuable information is obtained with Color Doppler in distinguishing between benign and malignant cysts in the ovaries.
Your diagnosis will be made clearly (myoma in the uterus, adenomyosis, endometrial diseases/polyps; cysts in the cervix, cysts/abscesses in the vagina; ovarian cysts, chocolate cysts [endometriomas], cystadenoma and similar tumoral pathologies; adhesions in the tubes, diseases such as abscesses; gynecological cancers).
You will not feel any pain or discomfort during the transvaginal ultrasound.
How should I prepare?
No preparation is required. You can come directly to TOMOKAY. A full bladder is not desired during the examination. A small amount of urine is acceptable, or the examination can be performed after completely emptying the bladder.
During the US, you will be placed on a special table and covered with a large sheet. Afterward, a female technician will insert the transvaginal probe into the vagina, and our Specialist Doctor will perform the Ultrasound examination. The examination takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
Transrectal Color Doppler US
What is transrectal color Doppler ultrasound?
The part of the device that touches the body during an ultrasound is called a probe. The specially designed shape of the probe placed in the anus is called a transrectal probe.
When ultrasound is performed by placing the probe transrectally (into the rectum/anus), the prostate, seminal vesicles, sperm ducts, and urinary tracts are seen very closely and clearly.
This provides the most detailed examination of the prostate. It is an indispensable method for diagnosis.
Thanks to Color Doppler, it can be clearly diagnosed whether lesions are hard, soft, or cystic.
Transrectal Ultrasound is necessary especially in overweight patients or if a clear diagnosis cannot be made with abdominal ultrasound.
EXAMINATIONS ARE PERFORMED AT TOMOKAY WITH TWO STATE-OF-THE-ART COLOR 4D ULTRASOUND DEVICES.
Your diagnosis will be made clearly:
Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate)
Prostate abscess
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Prostate cancer
Infertility examination
Other prostate diseases
You will not feel any pain or discomfort during the transrectal ultrasound.
How should I prepare?
You need to have had a bowel movement. The examination can generally be scheduled according to the time you have a bowel movement, or it can be performed after an enema application. The enema can be applied by yourself following our instructions or by the medical staff at our center.
A full bladder is not desired during the examination. A small amount of urine is acceptable, or the examination can be performed after completely emptying the bladder.
During the US, you will be laid on the examination table on your left side, and you will be covered with a large sheet. Afterward, the transrectal probe will be inserted into the anus, and our Specialist Doctor will perform the Ultrasound examination. The examination takes approximately 20 minutes.
Scrotal Color Doppler Ultrasound
What is scrotal color Doppler ultrasound?
It is an examination performed for male reproductive organs (testis and surrounding tissues).
Testicular pathologies are examined in the most detail with color Doppler ultrasonography.
Varicocele is one of the most important causes of male infertility and occurs as a result of abnormal enlargement and increase of the veins around the testis. It can cause testicular and groin pain. In some cases, these complaints are not present, and only sperm quality deteriorates (decrease in sperm count, decrease in live sperm count and deformity, slowing of sperm movements).
If a varicocele diagnosis is made, it is treated surgically to increase sperm quality.
Many varicocele cases that cannot be detected by urological examination can be detected with color Doppler USG.
Additionally, testicular inflammations (orchitis, epididymitis, etc.), tumors, and cysts are diagnosed.
Testicular torsion is an important disease requiring urgent diagnosis and treatment, resulting from the testis rotating within the scrotum and narrowing or blocking its vessels. There is sudden onset of severe pain and swelling in the testis, usually unilateral. Blood flow is viewed in detail with color Doppler USG to diagnose testicular torsion. Since it is an emergency, if you have complaints such as pain and swelling in the testis, go to a urologist immediately or come to TOMOKAY.
If diagnosed within a few hours, treatment is successful. Otherwise, the testis may have to be surgically removed.
Especially in childhood and adolescence, testicular pain and swelling require urgent color Doppler ultrasonography.
The veins around the testis are examined, and enlargements called varicoceles are examined in detail.
It can be requested by a doctor, or you can apply directly to TOMOKAY.
EXAMINATIONS ARE PERFORMED AT TOMOKAY WITH TWO STATE-OF-THE-ART COLOR 4D ULTRASOUND DEVICES.
You will not feel any pain or discomfort during the ultrasound.
How should I prepare?
No preparation is required.
In an emergency, you can come directly to TOMOKAY without an appointment.
It is recommended that you arrive 30 minutes before your appointment.

Superficial tissue ultrasound requires special expertise, equipment, and hardware.
At TOMOKAY, your diagnosis will be easily made with two state-of-the-art 4D color ultrasound devices.
Diseases such as masses (tumors), infections, and cysts; diseases originating from arteries and veins are diagnosed with superficial tissue color Doppler ultrasonography.
In addition, diseases in muscles, ligaments, and tendons are diagnosed.
Fluid accumulation in the joints is detected.
This ultrasound method is also the first method of diagnosis for sports injuries.
Don’t ignore any swelling or hardness in your hands, come to TOMOKAY.
**How should I prepare?**
No preparation is necessary.
In case of an emergency, you can come directly to our center.
If you have an appointment, we recommend arriving at our center 30 minutes early.
Renal Doppler US
What is renal artery color Doppler ultrasound?
Ultrasound examination of the kidney arteries is performed with color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS).
As with standard ultrasound, images are obtained using sound waves. Therefore, it is not harmful to human health. The blood flowing inside the vessels is seen as shades of red and blue. The inner diameter of the vessel, irregularities in the inner wall, atherosclerosis plaques, narrowing, blockage, enlargement, separation in the inner section (dissection), etc., are clearly seen.
The renal artery branches off from the main abdominal vessel (abdominal aorta). Narrowing and blockage can be seen in the renal artery, being more prominent at the origin.
Although there are many causes of hypertension, hypertension occurring due to kidney diseases is one of the most important and common causes; if the kidney disease is treated, hypertension may be eliminated. Therefore, the diagnosis of kidney disease is important.
One of the important diseases causing hypertension at a young age is narrowing of the Renal Artery. It is diagnosed with CDUS. Its treatment is performed with interventional radiological methods, and hypertension is treated. The person can be freed from using medication or their blood pressure returns to normal using less medication. CDUS may not give sufficient results in severely obese patients.
How should I prepare?
If there is an emergency, the ultrasound is performed without any preparation.
If the ultrasound is to be performed by appointment, 8 hours of fasting is preferred. Tea, coffee, and cigarettes are not consumed during the fasting period. Water can be drunk.
We recommend that you arrive at TOMOKAY 30 minutes before your appointment.
After starting the ultrasound, the examination will continue by having you drink 2-3 glasses of water.
Portal Color Doppler US
What is portal vein color Doppler ultrasound?
Blood comes to the liver via the hepatic artery (40%) and the portal vein (60%). The portal vein consists of blood filtered from the spleen and blood coming from the stomach + intestines (nutrients are found in the blood via absorption of food).
Portal vein examination is performed with color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS).
Portal vein diseases are more common in chronic liver disease and liver cirrhosis. Therefore, Portal vein color Doppler ultrasound must be performed in these patients.
It should also be performed in patients with fluid accumulation in the peritoneum (ascites).
As with standard ultrasound, images are obtained using sound waves. Therefore, it is not harmful to human health. The blood flowing inside the vessels is seen as shades of red and blue. The internal structure and diameter of the vessel, and clotting inside it are clearly seen.
Portal vein thrombosis (blockage) and additional veins called collaterals are diagnosed in this way.
In the portal vein Doppler examination, the portal vein and its forming branches, portal vein branches inside the liver, hepatic artery, and hepatic veins are examined.
Penile Color Doppler US
What is penile color Doppler ultrasound?
It is used to examine the blood flow coming to and going from the penis.
As with standard ultrasound, images are obtained using sound waves. Therefore, it is not harmful to human health. The blood flowing inside the vessels is seen as shades of red and blue. The internal structure and diameter of the vessel, and clotting inside it are clearly seen.
In the disease called impotence in men, there is a problem with the enlargement and hardening of the penis (called erection). In an erection, a large amount of blood arrives via the penile artery and the veins carry the blood away in a restricted manner. An erection occurs with the blood accumulating in the penis. Therefore, if an erection problem exists (impotence), the arteries and veins are examined with color Doppler ultrasound.
The most important causes of impotence are bad habits such as smoking, alcohol, and drugs; liver disease, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.
The structure, diameter, and blood flow speed of the artery are determined. It is determined whether there is a restriction in the return of blood for erection in the veins. If arterial and/or venous disease is present, the patient’s problem is solved with treatment directed at this.
During the examination, a vasoactive drug is injected into the penis with a very special small syringe.
Pain and suffering do not occur. However, in some people, the injected drug may cause a very slight burning sensation. It will pass within 1-2 minutes.
How should I prepare?
4 hours of fasting is preferred.
No restriction is made on water consumption.
We recommend that you arrive at TOMOKAY 30 minutes before your appointment.
Neck Color Doppler US
What is neck color Doppler ultrasound?
The neck region is examined using a high-frequency linear transducer to view superficial tissues with a Color Doppler Ultrasound device.
Our center has two state-of-the-art Color Doppler ultrasound devices. You will be examined using these devices.
Lymph nodes in the neck, muscles, vessels, fat planes, salivary glands, and the thyroid gland are examined in color.
Lymph node inflammations and tumors in the neck; salivary gland inflammations and tumors; thyroid gland inflammations, nodules, and tumors are diagnosed.
In diseases that cannot be diagnosed, a biopsy is performed with ultrasound guidance.
If vascular disease is suspected during the examination, we examine the vessels in detail with Color Doppler US.
How should I prepare?
No preparation is required.
If you have any swelling in your neck or similar complaints, you can come to TOMOKAY with your doctor’s guidance or directly.
Carotid Color Doppler US
What is carotid color Doppler ultrasound?
It is used to examine blood flow to the brain.
Brain blood flow is provided by two carotid arteries (main arteries in the neck) and two vertebral arteries.
As with standard ultrasound, images are obtained using sound waves. Therefore, it is not harmful to human health. In Color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS), blood flowing inside the vessels is seen as shades of red and blue. The inner diameter of the vessel, irregularities in the inner wall, atherosclerosis plaques, narrowing, blockage, enlargement, separation in the inner section, etc., are clearly seen.
Stroke = paralysis is a common disease. It frequently occurs due to blockage/narrowing in the brain vessel and hemorrhage. The disorders listed above in the vessel structure cause these.
Diagnosis is made clearly with CDUS and treatment is administered accordingly.
A person is as old as their vessels. Just as a young person can have old vessels, an elderly person can have young vessels. This situation depends on the person paying attention to their health (bad habits, diet, sports, etc.) and genetic factors.
The age of brain vessels is very important. Even if you do not have any complaints, we recommend that you have a Color Doppler Ultrasound, which is not harmful to human health. In this way, learn the status of your vessels; if your vessels are young, continue your living conditions as they are; if your vessels are old, take the precautions we recommend immediately and get treated.
Two very advanced Color Doppler Ultrasound devices are used at TOMOKAY.

Lower Extremity Venous Doppler Ultrasound
What is DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)?
DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) is a very serious medical problem caused by blood clotting in the deep veins (in the pelvis and legs). This clot almost completely blocks venous circulation. It leads to very serious health problems such as pulmonary embolism. Pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood clot reaches the lung and blocks the arterial circulation there.
**Who is in the risk group?**
Almost one hundred thousand people get sick due to DVT annually in our country. Of these, around fifteen thousand result in death due to pulmonary embolism. There are more deaths from DVT than deaths from breast cancer. Pulmonary embolism caused by DVT is a preventable condition. Of course, the diagnosis of DVT can save many lives in this situation. In some people, the risk of DVT formation is higher than in others. Some factors:
• Sitting immobile for a long time in cars and airplanes
• Bedridden status
• Obesity
• Genetic predisposition to clotting
• Cancer
• Heart and lung diseases
• Advanced age
• Estrogen-containing drugs such as birth control pills
• Postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy
• Pregnancy
• Recent surgery
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms of DVT can sometimes be overlooked. Almost more than half of DVT cases show no symptoms at all. A simple Color Doppler Ultrasound procedure is used to diagnose DVT.
Symptoms of DVT are pain, suffering, swelling, tenderness, and redness.
How is DVT diagnosed and treated?
It is diagnosed with Color Doppler Ultrasound. The examination takes approximately 20-30 minutes for each leg.
Until recent years, only blood-thinning medications were used in DVT treatment. Therefore, the possibility of developing post-thrombotic syndrome increases in patients. Our radiologist is equipped for all kinds of medical problems in this regard.
When will I receive the results?
Information regarding when you will receive your results will be given to you at our center. Under normal conditions, you can receive your results within 1-2 hours.
